My First Fantasy Football Draft

27 Aug

You may have noticed I was missing in action yesterday. My absence was in part because of recovering from a night of drunk debauchery but also because I was preparing for my first ever Fantasy Football Draft. Like any good student I had waited till the last-minute to study. A guy friend, who has mastered fantasy gave me this advice:

1. Draft Philadelphia Eagles’ running back LeSean McCoy first. I was pick number 4, McCoy went as number 2 in our draft. So  I failed at that one.

2. Make sure to get the San Francisco 49ers as your Defense Strategy. It took me about half-way through the draft to figure out how to pick at team for defense strategy so I failed at one and evened up with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

3. Whatever you do don’t draft Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo. Okay this one I definitely didn’t do. I instead went with Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick.

My grade so far would definitely be an C.

Brandon Jacobs Likes Em Fast

24 Apr

The former New York Giants(now with the San Francisco 49ers) running back Brandon Jacobs is in the shit again. If you will remember after the Super Bowl Jacobs oh so famously told Gisele Bundchen to stop talking about football and just focus on being pretty. Now Jacobs is being accused of participating in a car escort scandal a year ago. Basically what happened was two trooper cars escorted a group of luxury vehicles down the NJ Turnpike so that they could go at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. The group of cars had tape over their licenses and was on their way to Atlantic City.

For those of you who have never sat in traffic on the Turnpike it can be brutal. I once was on the Turnpike on way to NYC for 6 hours just sitting. I was contemplating peeing into a cup and debating if I was going to make it out alive. The point is that people who are stuck on the Turnpike have a lot of time to take in the scenery. Therefore it is kind of shocking that the troopers thought they would get away with it. Two troopers were briefly suspended in the matter.

It is not shocking to see Jacobs involved since he is a fast car enthusiast and let’s face it where do you drive fast cars in Jersey. I am not sure what people were more mad about this story: the obvious safety issues or that rich people got to avoid Turnpike traffic. For me it is the rich people avoiding traffic, the Turnpike took 6 hours from my life that I will never get back.

Everyone Wants to Be a 49er

18 Mar

The Giant’s receiver Mario Manningham will be leaving for the San Francisco 49ers. Manningham signed a 2-year deal for an undisclosed large sum of money. The 49ers just recently brought WR Randy Moss back from the grave retirement. If the 49ers could just get Peyton Manning they could be going to the Super Bowl next year. The 49ers current QB Alex Smith is looking through Manning’s reject pile and meeting with the Miami Dolphins. The best part is that Smith and Manning have the same agent- Tom Condon. But the question is does Manning want to be a 49er? I hear Tennessee is pulling at his heart strings reminding him of the college years.

Peyton Just Pick Already

16 Mar

It’s a crazy ride watching the news of Peyton Manning non-team decision. The Cardinals are officially out since they paid for QB Kevin Kolb. Rumor has it Manning told the Miami Dolphins no so they are free to purse QB Matt Flynn. Now it is down to the Denver Broncos, Tennessee Titans, or long shot San Francisco 49ers. I can’t help but to feel bad for 49er’s QB Alex Smith and Bronco’s QB Tim Tebow who are waiting on Manning’s decision. I think it hard for anyone to feel like a second choice for their own team.

Manning’s best options of getting back to the Super Bowl is with the 49ers. But it might be hard for Manning to turn to the reported $90 million over 5-years. Regardless Manning needs to make a decision soon before everyone starts to hate him.

Moss Officially Back

13 Mar

Wide receiver Randy Moss who just a couple of weeks ago was working out the Saints has found a home for one-year with the 49ers. The 49ers came pretty close to the Super Bowl this year but were missing some good receivers. Now 35-year-old Moss will be helping pick up the slack after returning from a brief retirement. Don’t you want to be in a field where retirement age is 35? Maybe being on the old side will make Moss work even harder. It is shaking up to be a very interesting free-agency season (is there already a term for this time of year).

Manning Close to Decision

12 Mar

It seems that the team tours appear to be winding down for Peyton Manning. After visits to the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals Manning is returning to his Florida home. Absent from his tour schedule seems to be the Miami Dolphins. Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs are also out of the running despite their attempts to snag Manning. The Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers are also in the mix for Manning.  So we will find out on Tuesday where Manning will go.  I bet Tim Tebow is counting the minutes until the decision is announced.
