Spoiler Alert: Don’t Worry He’s Still In It

9 Aug

The inspiring hotness of Oscar Pistorius is not done with the Olympics yet. It was a close call for the 4×400 South African relay team that almost didn’t make the cut. During the semifinal heat on Thursday morning the team’s second runner, Ofentse Mogawane, ran into Vince Mumo Kiilu of Kenya on the final turn. Mogawane than tumbled to the track. Mogawane dislocated his shoulder during the fall. Which confirms my fears about racers running so close together.

The refs ended up disqualifying the Kenyan team saying that Kiilu caused the fall by cutting off Mogawane. Even though Kiilu claimed he had been spiked by Mogawane. Usually teams that don’t finish the heat can’t qualify but after an appeal the South African team is being allowed to compete.

And we can all celebrate that we will once again get to see Pistorius run in the Olympics. I know what I’ll be doing Friday night now.

The Klown Times

Michael Phelps won his 18th career gold medal – 22nd overall – in the butterfly leg in the 400-meter individual medley earlier today.  This also was his sixth medal in the 2012 Olympics – four gold and two silver.  That should prove one thing.

Phelps is the greatest Olympian of all time.

Too early for such a proclamation?  I think not.

I mean, dude won 22 medals – 22!  Chew on that for a minute.  The Olympics arrive every four years.  That means for four consecutive Olympics – which covers 16 years – an athlete would have to average AT LEAST five medals per Olympic games to reach Phelps’ 22.

I don’t know about you, but I do not see that happening.

Sure, I have always maintained that Carl Lewis was the greatest Olympian ever.  And while I won’t suddenly poo-poo on Lewis’ accomplishments, I have to give Phelps…

Update: Phelps Get 19th Medal

31 Jul

Okay so just as I was writing about Michael Phelps getting his 18th medal and tying the record. Now he has the most medals in Olympic history with 19 medals.  The US took home the gold medal in the 4×200 relay. Phelps was the anchor of the team. The team included Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer, Ricky Berens, and Phelps. They won with a time of 6 minutes, 59.70 seconds. Behind them was France with 7:02.77 and China in third with 7:06:30.  That means Lochte now has two gold medals!!!! And we finally beat France.

Don’t Worry Lochte We Still Love You

30 Jul

It’s been downhill for Ryan Lochte ever since his first gold medal win. First it was choking as the anchor of 400-meter freestyle relay. Lochte apparently got a little to excited a wore himself out by getting an early lead only to loose it in the end to Frenchman Yannick Agnel. Giving the Americans the silver medal behind France. Michael Phelps on the other hand proved why he was amazing by gaining a lead during his leg of the relay.

If that loss weren’t enough now Lochte has failed to medal 200-meter freestyle finishing fourth on Monday. He was beaten again by Frenchman Agnel who took home the gold. There is nothing worse than being beaten by the French, I’m mean isn’t it enough that they think they are better than us and now they are proving it. Despite this loss I still believe Lochte will win gold in the 200-meter individual medley and 200-meter backstroke. True Lochte fans never give up hope.
