The Cowboys Are Strict Parents

27 Aug

Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant is going to be under lock and key. Bryant was arrested back in July for a Class A misdemeanor for assaulting his mother. Apparently there was an argument and he pushed her. She didn’t not need to go to the hospital but the police were still called. Although this was Bryant’s first arrest he previous had an altercation in a nightclub in Miami and was also banned from a mall for bad language and sagging pants. The Cowboys are taking no chances on him getting into the trouble again.

The 23-year old will be adhering to some new rules. Here is what he must do:

1. Attend weekly counseling sessions.

2. Have a full-time security detail. They will be with him all the time: practices, games, lunch with his grandma.

3. Cannot consume alcohol or go to strip clubs.

4. He has a 12am curfew every night.

So basically Bryant is like a 15-year old kid. But on the bright side at least the Cowboys care enough to give him rules. When Chad Johnson hit his wife the Miami Dolphins just sent him packing. And he does get a much bigger salary than the average teenager with a contract of $1.34 million yearly.

The Hits Keep Coming on Vick

21 Aug

Regular football season hasn’t even started and already Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick has had two hits and left the games after only 6 plays. In the first game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Vick left due to a thumb injury which after X-rays ended up being fine. Than on Monday night he was knocked to the ground by New England Patriots’ Jermaine Cunningham. Another X-ray was done on Vick’s ribs but found nothing broken. It is unlikely that Vick will play anymore in the preseason but is expected to recover in time for regular season.

It is clear that there are still a lot of Vick haters out there for his illegal dog fighting practices for which he served time in jail. I’m not sure what I think about reform but for what it’s worth Vick has lobbied for tougher dog fighting laws since he suspension. So maybe he is a changed man . . . regardless he is still a good quarterback. And without him the Eagles would be screwed.

Evelyn Lozada Speaks Out

14 Aug

Evelyn Lozada issued a statement today concerning her heat butting incident with her estranged husband Chad Ochocinco Johnson. She said the following: “I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me. It is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well.”

It is crazy that Johnson even tried to claim Lozada head-butted him since she was the one with a gash in her forehead. And why would Lozada run to the neighbor for help if she was the one who was violent? I think it is good that Lozada is setting a positive example by standing up against domestic violence. Which if you read some comments on stories about the incident  you will see is necessary. There are multiple men who wrote, “you need to put a woman in her place” messages. I think that if you find a receipt for condoms as a wife you have a right to question your husband.

Things have gotten even worse for Lozada who found out last night that her brother in law, Anthony Ochoa, died of cancer. Ochoa walked Lozada down the aisle a month ago. He was married to Lozada’s sister, Sylvia, for ten years.

This is all such sad news. Let’s hope things start getting better for Lozada.

Say What? Roger Clemens is Innocent

18 Jun

Former Yankee pitcher, Roger Clemens, was found not guilty Monday of lying his ass off to Congress perjury and making false statements. If you’ll remember back I posted how the trial had been pretty boring with several jurors being dismissed for napping. It got slightly more interesting when strength trainer coach Brian McNamee saved old steroid injections that he had given to Clemens in a beer can. But McNamee’s character was torn apart by his former wife. Not only that but apparently storing evident in a old beer can in a Fedex envelope doesn’t seem to stand up in court. Again really think this guy should have gone with a plastic baggie. The jury was also convinced by the testimony from catcher Charlie O’Brien who explained how Clemens real edge came from a new pitch he learned, split-fingered fastball.

I think if we can take anything away from this case it’s that the government needs to stop trying to take down baseball players. The war on baseball has cost the US tax payers, between $2-3 million dollars to prosecute Clemens. This is the second time the government has gone after baseball for doping and ended up with nothing to show for it. In 2011 Barry Bonds was the target who was eventually found guilty of obstruction of justice and sentenced to house arrest. Obstruction of justice is a nothing charge compared to perjury.

I think most baseball fans know doping is happening. It wasn’t a juice diet that turned Bonds into the incredible Hulk. And overall I don’t think fans care. Let’s stop wasting money to prove the obvious. Most players are doping. If they really want to even the fields than let’s make sure they are all on the same steroids.

Floyd Mayweather and His Lawyers Are Full of…

12 Jun

Agreed.

The Foolish Truth

After serving 12 whole days in prison, Floyd Mayweather and his lawyers have decided that Floyd should serve the rest of his 3 month sentence at his small, cramped Las Vegas mansion. They are claiming that the world-class athlete who beats people up for a living is worried about his health, and the horrible side effects that 90 days in prison could ultimately produce. Are they serious? Floyd is not a 79, corrupt CEO who’s looking to serve life in prison. He’s probably one of the healthiest 30 somethings in the world, due to his dedicated workout routine.

I’m not saying I could do 1 hour in prison, but Mayweather needs to cut the bullsh*t, because no one is buying it. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

The Day Boxing Died

10 Jun

It was clear to everyone watching last night’s fight that Manny Pacquiao beat Timothy Bradley. All of the rounds went to Pacquaio except one according to FOX Sports coverage. The Associated Press had Pacquaio winning 117-111. Pacquaio clearly landed more punches. Bradley landed 159 punches and Pacquaio had 253. It seemed so decided that people started to leave the bar before the decision was announced. The camera panned to Bradley’s wife who was almost in tears. No one was happy that Pacquaio had won but it seemed fair. Then everything changed the announcer came on declared that Bradley was the winner. In a split decision two judges picked Bradley. And with that people started to mourn the loss of boxing as a real sport. It went just like this:

SHOCK: What? Are you f****** kidding?

DENIAL: This is totally rigged. That’s why they already set-up a rematch in November.

ANGER: I’m never watching boxing again. This is bullshit. One of the judges never even judged a match before.

BARGAINING: Can they overturn this decision? I mean they can watch the tapes?

DEPRESSION: That fight was terrible. There is no point of watching boxing unless Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fight.

I think we all knew that boxing had given way to capitalism. It was no longer about the quality of the fighter but his ability to gain the media’s attention. Skill doesn’t sell tickets to fights but hype does. Bradley is the perfect example of this. He has been a champion fighter since 2008 but no one knew him. That’s because Bradley doesn’t sell himself as a villain like Mayweather. He doesn’t say crazy things just get more tickets sold, he just fights. And man it would have been nice to see him win on his own merits instead of becoming the pawn of the boxing machine. Now who wants tickets for the rematch?

Homophobic Guy vs. Who?

9 Jun

Saturday night at the MGM Grande Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao will fight Timothy Bradley. You have the former gambling-womanizer-cockfighter taking on the unknown potential sociopath who punch a kid in a wheelchair when he was 10. In Bradley’s defense the wheelchair kid kept running into him. There are no excuses for Pacquaio’s former behavior. Although now Pacquaio is a Christian who hates gays. I think I preferred him as a party boy with his own personal cock fighting farm.

Pacquaio is highly favored to win. He’s on winning streak and is really only fighting Bradley because he has run out of other good fighters to fight. Pacquaio wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather but Mayweather was scarred of him wouldn’t split the profits. Mayweather is currently enjoying his 3-month vacation in jail where shockingly they don’t have HBO so he won’t see the fight.

This fight should be interesting. Will Pacquaio clearly establish his dominance? Or will Bradley break out of the boxing fan world into the main stage? We shall see. . .

Either way it will be a good fight. Saturday 9:00pm HBO(or for us poor people your local sports bar).

Boxing with Gay Marriage

17 May

Floyd “Jail Bound” Mayweather spoke out on Twitter Wednesday to say, “I stand behind President Obama & support gay marriage. I’m an American citizen & I believe people should live their life the way they want.” Mayweather was responding to Manny Pacquiao denouncement of gays. Pacquiao apparently told a reporter that he thought gay marriage was sin(which somehow spiraled into gay people should be killed). Which outraged the gay community and even called for the Grove shopping center in LA to ban him. Banning from the Grove is pretty serious considering it has the only Cheesecake Factory in the area. Thursday Pacquiao came out to apologize and deny clarify. Apparently Pacquaio doesn’t believe in gay marriage but thinks it okay to be gay. It sounds like Pacquaio is running for office. I think the only people this apology worked on was the Grove because they lifted their one day ban on him.

Pacquaio knows a thing or two about sinning. After almost losing to Juan Manuel Marquez last November he cleaned up his life. He did what every reformer does he got back together with his wife, he sold his casino, got rid of his cockfighting farm, gave up basketball(the basketball thing was also confusing to me too), and started reading the Bible. I am not sure which is worse: a gambling cockfighter condemning gay marriage or a wife-beater supporting it?

I think if Mayweather supports gay marriage he should prove it and fight Pacquaio.
