Serena is Smokin

24 Aug

Seriously Serena Williams looked amazing at her appearance the other night on Letterman. She deserves to look pretty before the US Open starts on Sunday and she has to spend her days sweaty. If you were curious her shoes are Christian Louboutins that cost $4,000. It pays to be good.

Olympic Fashion No-No

2 Aug

I love to watch gymnastics as much as the next person. I accept that the gymnast will be wearing skin tight bedazzled spandex but what I cannot accept is the scrunchies. Yes the cloth covered hair accessories have some how never gone out of style in the rest of the world. Team USA knows better and keeps it clean and simple with a hair tie. And since the Americans just kicked butt I think this should give other gymnast cause to ditch their scrunchies.

Shocker: USA beats France in Basketball

29 Jul

For those of you up early enough to watch Team USA kick Tony Parker’s France’s ass in basketball, it was an okay game. USA won the game, 98-71. France was seen a more viable competitor because of Tony Parker’s presence but alas it wasn’t enough to move past the Dream Team Status Quo Team. In his first appearance at the Olympics Kevin Durant was the star. Durant scored 22 points and had 9 rebounds. Despite the star power it was a clumsy game with 14 turnovers and 26 fouls. Team USA has one big advantage- the best bench ever. When your bench players are Anthony Davis you know you are in a good place.

Durant was definitely more motivated since his loss with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals. LeBron James finished the game with 9 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebounds. Although James’ stats don’t sound amazing . . . he did only play for 24 minutes.

France was lucky to even have Parker who almost missed the game after the Chris Brown glass in the eye incident. To protect his eyes Parker was forced to sport some nerd chic goggles. Parker not only had to go through eye surgery but also was confined to a hotel room for a week so that probably affected his game.

The highlight of the game for some was the hug and pat on the back from First Lady Michelle Obama. The next game Team USA plays is against Tunisia(it’s in the northern part of Africa) on Tuesday.

I’d Rather Go Naked . . . Than Wear That

20 Jul

Who cares that the US Olympic Team’s uniforms were made in China at least they don’t look like Spain’s outfits. When they first released the outfits I thought man that’s bad but hoping they might change. Oh no it just got worse. It is so bad that even the athletes are distancing themselves from the uniforms.

Spanish canoeist, Saul Craviotto, tweeted a picture of his outfit and told people, “I’ll leave it up to you.” Meanwhile field hockey player(yes apparently that is an Olympic sport and Spain has a team) tweeted a cheesy photo of himself in the outfit and put, “Spare the adjectives …

So what is Spain saying about the outfits- they were free. I mean I know Spain is having a tough economic time but really couldn’t you have put some money in to make your countrymen look respectable not like fast food workers?

ESPYs Fashion Rundown

12 Jul

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Forget the Hollywood celebs at the 2012 ESPYs the real stars are the athletes. The ESPY are the awards presented by the ESPN for excellence in sports and is voted by you(or the actual people who voted). The big winner of the night was LeBron James who won 3 awards. He didn’t have time accept the awards because he is training in Las Vegas for the Olympics. But don’t worry lots of other celeb athletes strutted their stuff on the red carpet.

No Olympics for Dwayne Wade

28 Jun

In the least shocking news of the day Dwayne Wade has decided not to play in the Olympics so that he can undergo knee surgery. We all saw this coming. I am not saying Wade was not playing through an injury in the playoffs but he is also the same guy who was bitching for not getting paid to play in the Olympics. It cost a lot to buy $500 glasses without frames. If you remember Wade didn’t seem to understand how sponsorship works. You know how they want you to represent their brand in an international venue.

Regardless I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Who Started This Trend?

20 Jun

Long gone is the day when basketball players show-up to press conferences with a baseball hat and a chain around their necks. It is no longer cool . . . instead they show up with crazy outfits. It is has gotten so bad that I feel like we spend more time talking about what they are wearing or not wearing in the case of lens less glasses, that we aren’t talking about the game as much. It’s gotten to the point where kids in Miami are imitating the stars by stealing 3-D glasses and popping the lens out to look cool.

So who do we blame for this trend? Actually David Stern. Back in 2005 Stern decided he had enough of the bad boy image and implemented a dress code. The code is worse than a club on a Saturday: no baggy jeans, baseball caps, chains, basically anything relating to hip-hop culture. So the players had to find a new way to look fashionable, the obvious choice was nerd chic. Yes the 90’s nerd came back but this time as a hipster.

And I have to say I miss bad boy days, the whole nerd thing just isn’t doing it for me.

Pump it Up for the Finals

19 Jun

I am totally in love with this website Herstar. They have sports themed pumps. And I have to say I’m not a Oklahoma City Thunder fan but I definitely feeling these shoes. The site has special edition pumps for the final four teams, which makes me even madder that the Lakers couldn’t make it that far. They still have Lakers pumps but not as bedazzled. I think as a girl it is hard to express your fandom without looking like a boy so I’m all for some sports themed pumps. You can pick a special edition pair for $274.99 (so just slightly more than the LeBron South Beach shoes but at least these sparkle).

Check it out:

NBA players spending $500 for glasses that don’t work? Yeah, seems about right.

It’s so weird that the cool kids now want to look like nerds.

Shoe: Untied

As some of you may know, there’s a fashion trend among many idiot posers of the world  pro athletes and actors in which the point is to apparently look as stupid as humanly possible. I’m talking about ugly clothes, junior high backpacks and glasses without lenses. That’s right, I said glasses without lenses. This fashion trend is called “Nerd Chic”, which is an oxymoron if I ever heard one. Speaking of morons, here’s Dwyane (my mother didn’t know how to spell Duane) Wade after a recent loss to the Celtics.

Horrible styles in women’s tennis

30 May

I thought tennis was a classy sport? What has happened?
-M

Oh it runs backwards!

OIRB was never meant to be a fashion critic blog. But watching the French Tennis Open this weekend, I just so happened to catch a glimpse of a certain Bethanie Mattek Sands’ match against something something Lisicki. And it was mesmerizing.

Bethanie is American, ranked 170 in the WTA. However, in our horrible tennis style ranking, she is an obvious number 1. Or is she? Here is our top 5 horrible tennis styles.

5. Serena Williams

The motorcycle / hells angels from outer-space  look, by Serena Williams. Good enough to make number 5.

I especially like the leather shin guards.

4. Maria Sharapova

The mermaid-look was a long shot, even for Maria.

Obviosuly, Nike recently hired the people who did Jenifer Lopez’s provocative Versace rainforest dress at the oscars back in 2000.

The question left unanswered here is: how can you be so pretty and look so bad?

3. King Joffrey
